Basic Recipes 

Mealie Meal Porridge

  Serves 2-3 
   Put 1 cup mealie meal into a jug, and fill with cold water.  Stir until well mixed.  

   Leave to settle and then pour water out, leaving only the mealie meal in the bottom of the jug.

   Bring 3 cups water to the boil in a saucepan.  Add salt to taste.  

   Add the mealie meal and allow to simmer, stirring occasionally, for a minimum of 20 minutes before serving.  

 

   Enjoy eating with a topping of your choice - honey, butter, sugar and milk, cinnamon and many other options. 
 

Krummelpap (Putu)

  Serves 4-6

   Bring 500 ml (2 cups) water and 5 ml (1 tsp) salt to the boil in a heavy-based saucepan.  

   Add 750 ml (3 cups) mealie meal (do not stir), cover with a lid and simmer for 15 minutes.  

   Stir with a fork until porridge becomes crumbly.  

   Simmer for 20 - 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.  

Amabele Porridge

  Serves 3 - 4

   Mix 1 cup Amabele with 1 cup cold water and salt to taste in a saucepan.  

   Place on stove and add 2 - 3 cups boiling water, while stirring.  

   Once boiling, simmer for 15 minutes.  

   Stir occasionally. 

 

   Enjoy eating with a topping of your choice - honey, butter, sugar and milk, cinnamon and many other options.
